It’s true, having life insurance in place gives you and your family future security.

Anytime that the subject of life insurance is brought up, people flee the room. Well, no seriously, they may not leave the room, but they are uncomfortable with the subject. It brings home the fact to them that everyone is mortal. No one wants to spend time speculating when they will die or even what illness may end their lives. It’s better to look ahead with joy and enthusiasm, and leave the dark and dreary things to someone else.

Good idea perhaps, but this still does not deal with the fact that life insurance is protection for you and your family for the future in case something happens to you. It’s an “investment” in your life and one that you will want to pay forward for this generation and the next (should you have children). This is especially vital if you are the primary breadwinner for the family. If something happened, what would your family do? In other words, put yourself in their shoes and figure out how you would carry on without someone you loved supporting you financially.

It’s a fact of life that our choices tend to affect our health. If we make questionable choices, then it’s to be expected that our health is also questionable. Put another way, we don’t know what will happen to us in the next minute or hour, and we don’t know when we might fall victim to a deadly accident or illness. If you want your family cared for and you are not there to do it yourself, then life insurance is the answer.

Something else you also need to consider is that death is pricey and may include hospital bills, medications, therapy bills, and so on. These bills will still arrive if you don’t make it through your ordeal alive. They will also have the cost of the funeral on top of the bills from the hospital. If your family doesn’t have life insurance to count on, they will face an enormous uphill struggle to manage this death debt. If you think life insurance is expensive, try forking out money to pay death expenses. It is a real eye-opener. Nothing says that you have to have the most expensive policy with all the bells and whistles, unless that is what you want and can afford. Most life insurance companies worth their salt realize not everyone is a millionaire and price their policy offerings accordingly. This means you can shop around for the lowest premium that offers the maximum amount of life insurance. And yes, it can be done by speaking to an expert life insurance broker who genuinely has your best interests at heart.

The debate on health care reform has gone through several levels already. It has touched and tackled several federal and personal issues that connect to the very essence of being an American within the soil of America. The economists and some skeptics would shoo away the idea of any reform in the health care as they fear any additional tax payments or increase in the premiums. People on medical scrubs - those in the medical field particularly the doctors - are doubtful on the effects of the proposed reform on their profession. The average working American is afraid that this reform could possibly slash his existing insurance whether it is effective to him or not and then be replaced with another that might not just simply work on his terms.

The government, particularly the White House has been fervently pursuing the crusade on the passing of the health care reform bill in Congress. Though this crusade is still somewhat clouded with uncertainty and doubt, every person in the President’s camp is positive that their cause is the on the right position and direction. Just few weeks ago, First Lady Michelle Obama shared a video on WhiteHouse.gov about how her family could have suffered loss of a child had it not they were not covered with an effective health insurance. The video’s purpose is to disseminate truth about the President’s real plan about the health care bill of the country. Secretary Sebelius openly stated in the video that one of the highlights of the bill is the security of the insured that even pre-existing conditions or previous surgeries can never limit the insurance policy a thing that most American had a problem with the current health bill. Many accounts and cases would somehow reflect that because a particular insured has pre-existing condition or has undergone surgery already, the insurance would some vary in terms on the employer’s responsibility over the shared premium payments or the coverage of the insurance.

For now, it is yet unclear whether this particular reform will somehow push through in Congress but hopes are high that somehow at least this issue has been tackled and shone light upon. But of course, it is the hope of the majority that this bill will not just benefit a certain group of people but the whole country - from bosses, to insurance providers, to those brave men and women in medical field - that are all people that need the same rights on health.

Diabetes is a condition that causes your blood sugar levels to become extremely high. At the time of writing there are approximately 177 million diabetics although this number is expected to increase significantly in the future. Diabetes is generally caused by your pancreas not producing enough insulin or your body’s cells not responding to insulin. There are a number of different types of diabetes and in this article I am going to discuss each of them in a little more detail.

  1. GESTATIONAL DIABETES: - This is a form of diabetes that develops in approximately 5% of pregnant women. It is a temporary condition that generally occurs during the second half of pregnancy and disappears when the new baby is born. Gestational diabetes is thought to be caused by hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. Although it is only temporary it can still have a number of negative effects if it is not managed properly. These include pre-eclampsia (a type of high blood pressure) and macrosomia (having a baby with a high birth weight). Poorly managed gestational diabetes can also increase your chances of contracting type 2 diabetes in later life.
  2. PRE-DIABETES: - This condition refers to people with higher than normal blood glucose levels. It develops when your cells start to resist insulin or your pancreas starts to produce less insulin. The cause of this is not clear but inactivity and obesity are thought to be huge risk factors. Pre-diabetic’s blood glucose levels are not considered high enough to be full type 2 diabetes. However, it is an early warning sign for the condition. Pre-diabetes can be reversed by making positive lifestyle changes but if ignored it almost always developed into type 2 diabetes.
  3. TYPE 1 DIABETES: - This type of diabetes develops when your pancreas stops producing insulin. This is generally the result of your immune system attacking the pancreas although nobody is sure what causes the immune system to act in this way. Type 1 diabetes is less common than type 2 diabetes but it is a much more serious condition. Positive lifestyle changes alone are not enough to treat this condition. It needs to be treated with insulin injections and also needs to be monitored regularly using a glucometer.
  4. TYPE 2 DIABETES: - This is the most common form of diabetes. Like pre-diabetes it develops when your pancreas produces limited amounts of insulin or your cells stop responding to insulin properly. Type 2 diabetes can generally be managed through eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly but around 40% of sufferers require insulin injections as well.

I hope this article has given you a better understanding of the different types of diabetes. If you suffer from any of the above conditions then you need to start making some positive lifestyle changes. Modifying your diet, doing more exercise, regularly checking your blood glucose levels and if necessary using insulin injections can really help you manage diabetes and reduce any negative complications.

Asthma is the most common cause for admission to children’s hospitals. Almost one in three children suffer asthma in Australia. When a child has a mucus discharge; inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis), ear or throat infection, the child is often routinely given a drug medicine such as a course of antibiotics to ’settle it down’ or, ‘dry it Up’. The medicine can often, in the beginning appear to succeed in reducing (the right word is ’suppressing’) the symptoms.

Because the foreign matter of putrid mucus and puss settles down and stops flowing, it does not mean it has vanished! Far from it! It is physically and biologically impossible for it to just ‘disappear’.

ventolin inhalerThe symptoms settle because they are driven back into the body but the original cause not being addressed is still active in the organism so it is only a matter of time until the child gets a recurrence of the same symptoms. As this mismanagement continues and the symptoms are repeatedly treated this way and suppressed, the mucous membranes being affected will degenerate and become more active and reactive. It becomes a ‘weak point’ in the body.

Over time, the space of a few seasons particularly winters, the symptoms change to where a cough becomes part of the symptoms. This is also treated with medicines and cough mixtures in an attempt to stop the cough. After a few courses of medicine for the cough, often a wheeze will start and the doctor will pronounce that the child now has asthma. Then the child is put onto more and often stronger drugs such as antihistamines and steroids to again treat the presenting symptoms yet giving no thought to identifying and removing the cause.

Many asthmatic children are tested to see if they have an allergy to something like dust mite, cats, dust or something minor like this. These things do not cause asthma! They can cause the body to react and produce symptoms, but let’s get it right here; they do not cause the disease.

Because the child’s system has been blasted (and that’s the fitting word that comes to mind with these modern strong drugs) for so long that the suppressed morbid filth within the body and the degenerated mucous membrane weaken the system to the extent is reacts to certain chemical substances. That is all! These reactions can certainly kill if the asthmatic’s medicines are not at hand but don’t think they are the original, underlying cause of the disease. Most often, certain foods are more responsible for causing asthma in genetically susceptible people than anything else. Below is just one account from hundreds of successful treatments for this condition.

Obama Healthcare Reform Bill

Obama HealthCare System Bill: The health care bill unveiled this week by the House of Representatives (with the full support of the Obama administration) is one of the worst pieces of legislation ever drafted. If passed, it will reduce the quality and increase the cost of health care in America. But more importantly, it will severely undermine our already weak economy. To burden a country currently in the throes of a violent recession with such a bureaucratic albatross clearly illustrates the scarcity of economic intelligence in Washington.

In the first place, specifically taxing the rich to pay for health care for the uninsured is the wrong way to think about tax policy and is an unconstitutional redistribution of wealth. While the government has the constitutional power to tax to “promote the general welfare,” it does not have the right to tax one group for the sole and specific benefit of another. If the government wishes to finance national health insurance, the burden of paying for it should fall on every American. If that were the case, perhaps Congress would think twice before passing such a monstrosity.

In the second place, the bill is just plain bad economics. For an administration that claims to want to create jobs, this bill is one of the biggest job-killers yet devised. By increasing the marginal income tax rate on high earners (an extra 5.4% on incomes above 1 million), it reduces the incentives for small business owners to expand their companies. When you combine this tax hike with the higher taxes that will kick in once the Bush tax-cuts expire, and add in the higher income taxes being imposed by several states, many business owners might simply choose not to put in the extra effort necessary to expand their businesses. Or, given the diminishing returns on their labor, they may choose to enjoy more leisure. More leisure for employers means fewer jobs for employees.

More directly, mandating insurance coverage for employees increases the cost of hiring workers. Under the terms of the bill, small businesses that do not provide insurance will be required to pay a tax as high as 8% of their payroll. Since most small businesses currently could not afford to grant 8% across-the-board pay hikes, they will have to offset these costs by reducing wages. However, for employees working at the minimum wage, the only way for employers to offset the costs would be through layoffs.

The uninsured self-employed, or those working as independent contractors, will be forced to buy insurance or pay a tax equal to 2.5% of annual income. Either choice will divert resources from more productive uses into an already out-of-control health care bureaucracy.

Sadly, the bill does nothing to restrain or alter the dynamics that have caused health care costs to spiral ever higher. In fact, the bill will intensify these pressures.

The simplest (but by no means fullest) explanation of why health care costs so much is that demand exceeds supply. Demand is a function of how much people are prepared to pay. Insuring more people will drive demand for health care services even higher. (To truly get a handle on out-of-control health care costs, we need more people paying for routine medical care out of pocket, and tort reform for medical malpractice. See my previous commentary).

As costs continue to soar, expect additional tax hikes to fund the added expense. As these additional taxes further encumber a weak economy, the diminished tax base will yield lower total tax revenues - despite higher rates. As the politicians attempt to pass ever higher increases to make up for revenue shortfalls, a vicious cycle toward insolvency will ensue.

The worst part of the whole fiasco is trying to imagine the bureaucracy necessary to administer this plan. My guess is that the government provider will mis-price its policies on the low side, pushing employers to dump private sector insurance for the taxpayer-subsidized alternative. Such a system will further distort health care pricing and, ultimately, make a bad situation intolerable.

The enormity, complexity, and expense of this bill could well pull the rug out from what many of my cheerleading colleagues believe to be the beginning of an economic recovery. The way I see it, the economy is walking dead anyway, and this measure is the equivalent of a stake through the heart. But even if we manage to escape the grave this time, Congress is working on a few other ideas that will surely keep us buried.
